Friday Reads: Roald Dahl

When Dan and I found out the induction of Baby #2 would be on September 13th, the first thing he did was look to see what famous people were born on that day. I’m sure he was hoping for a baseball player, but I was thrilled to find out that my absolute favorite author, Roald Dahl, will share a birthday with our little girl! Do I see a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed birthday party in the future?

So, to celebrate the arrival of MJC (name to be fully revealed when I know for sure she’s arrived!), here are some wonderful quotes I found by Mr. Dahl:

  • “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” –from THE TWITS
  • “I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.”
  • “Matilda said, “Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it’s unbelievable…” –from MATILDA
  • “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
